Warstorm Strategy: Matimilopeotryx and Cataclysm Cards
Warstorm Articles:
The Matimilopeotryx Based on the overwhelming success of my Warstorm Guide, where you learn the basics of deck construction and strategy for PvP. Since that article, I've put in a lot of time playing daily, in tournaments, acquiring new cards, and testing out different strategies. Some of the high level friends I play against have AMAZING decks. They have every T7 red card, have really good strategies, and beat me almost regardless of what I use against them. I've found that many high level Warstorm players use Matimilopeotryx in most 3-4 deck set-ups and I've run into some very dangerous Cataclysm+Animation decks. In this guide you'll learn how to develop similar decks and use them correctly.
The Matimilopeotryx is a rare T7 card that has multiple instances. Currently I have the Undead, Orc, Elf, and Human Matimilopeotryx's and I've heard of a Demon card floating around. Basically, if you get Matimilopeotryx onto the field, you win. So, most multi-deck set-ups should have a few rush cards to ensure you don't run out of morale before your cards see action. Also, you should think about what you can do to prevent being overwhelmed while you wait for your Matimilopeotryx to come into play. So, I use rush, cards with icebolt, and flaming cards. Take a look: Orc Matimilopeotryx:
This deck utilizes my best Orc cards. The Blast and Archery T7 cards are amazing, and when that Archer hits the field you're likely to wipe out a lot of your opponents. The two flaming cards are awesome because I commonly will waiting for the Matimilopeotryx to come into play and my opponent will have his entire deck out - so I need the flaming cards to burn up their HP before they can beat me. The blast 2 + flying modifiers on the Orc Matimilopeotryx is really hard to overcome. The strongest archers do 3 dmg (as seen above), so it would take at least two hits from the strongest archer (2 turns) to beat this card. So, you've done a minimum of 4 dmg to all cards on the field before your Matimilopeotryx goes to the graveyard. If you only have one of these cards, I recommend pairing this Orc deck with Undead decks that utilize Resurrection cards. If you can bring this guy back after his initial onslaught, you have victory locked up. Human Matimilopeotryx:
I love this guy. Flying, Icebolt 4, huge HP, and lets you bring spells out. If you get the Human Matimilopeotryx, use spells that rush your cards into play. Within a short period, you can have 4-5 very strong dragon cards in play. Icebolt is great because it lets you freeze an opponent 50% of the time, which is helpful when you only have 1 dragon out vs 4 cards. Limit the damage that can be done before you get all of your dragons into play. Undead Matimilopeotryx:
I opened a LOT of undead faction packs to get this guy. You can also unlock him if you have a ton of friends on Warstorm, like most other Matimilopeotryx cards. Drainbolt 3 + Flying? You win! Whenever I'm not running this deck and I see the Undead Matimilopeotryx in my opponent's "hand," I know I've lost. It's REALLY hard to overcome a high HP card that regenerates 3 life and damages 5 every turn. I filled the rest of the deck with really powerful undead cards that have a medium length wait time. Ideally I would have a few cards with a wait time of 6 or less, but the good thing is that when any of these cards come out they pack a heck of a punch. The T7 Patch Warrior was one of my first cards, and watching him set the entire field on fire with no ability to damage is amazing. The T7 Zombie Berserker is very tough! Often he'll run into a 1/5 dragon or 2/4 card, and Regenerate + Berserk is a great combination because every turn his stats will change: 1/6->2/5->3/4 (beats opponent, heals), 3/5, 3/6, 4/5, 5/4, etc. I've had this card up to 9/6 WITH a flying ring, letting me wipe out my entire opponents field over a few turns. Elf Matimilopeotryx:
This is my least favorite Matimilopeotryx and least favorite deck. This is mainly because even though they're all T7 characters, Elves have a hard time synergizing. I like having a healer with the Owlbears, because the more dmg they do/take, the higher their attack # gets. Like the Zombie Berserker, expect 2/5->3/5->4/5->5/4->6/3->8/1. The Elf Matimilopeotryx is pretty great but in general suffers from a lack of regeneration, no spells or artifacts, and poison damages the opponent after they've had their turn. I'd much rather blast 2 dmg than take a whole round of dmg from my opponent and get one extra point of dmg/each in. It might be possibile to run this deck 1vs1 if you replace the 6 powerhouse units with quick archers, but generally you're better off with a more synergistic strategy when using elves. Cataclysm
Cataclysm is a tricky card. It's not fun getting a bunch of high wait time dragons out on the field, have your opponent running scared, and he wipes out your entire army with a single spell. Of course, he lost his cards too, but they suck and yours are amazing T7, synergized, and well thought out. Well, if you have a bunch of animated undead cards, a couple Cataclysm's, and enjoy luck playing a higher than average role, then this might be the set-up for you. Argol The Risen and His Animated Hourde:
Animated is the key to using Cataclysm. Your goal is to bring out tough, animated cards that have a 50% chance of coming back to the staging area once Cataclysm wipes the field. Life Trappers are generally garbage because they come out immediately (way before your other cards) and get beat easily. This generally leads to a waste of the Reanimate skill upon death, however when using Cataclysm you'll often trigger 1-2 extra reanimations which is really helpful. Often when using this set-up I'll find that the field gets wiped, the Life Trapper goes to the graveyard, the second Life Trapper is reanimated, and I often see a chain of this occurance. Be a pest! Keep coming back for more with animated cards. Catii The Reanimator and Cataclysm He Causes:
The Cataclysm cards are obviously mandatory. Catii has 2 slots for spells, so he's a natural choice compared to other Undead heroes that let you bring more artifacts into play. All four of the units are animated, and the T7 Healing Catii is a decent boss card. I wish there was a tougher, animated hero with spell slots, but I've yet to find one worth using yet. Catii Comes Again: More Animation, More Cataclysm
Same sort of deck as above, your goal is to wipe out your opponents cards, and most of yours back into play. The Necromancy spell is fantastic, and is the second best reason to concentrate on Undead cards (first being Undead Matimilopeotryx w/ Drainbolt). If I had a third Catii for a four deck set-up, I would rather use more Necromancy Spells than more Cataclysms. You really only need 2-3 of that spell to have a very high chance of it going off multiple times, and Necromancy lets you being back cards again and again. If you aren't using Cataclysm, I recommend using high powered undead cards + Necromancy to fill your board with the best T7 Undead cards available. However, as a cheap option - Animation + Cataclysm is VERY effective. Thank you for reading! [Head Back To The First Warstorm Guide]
