Keeping up with the most noteworthy projects requires time, so in an effort to make things easier we here at Opportunity LOL have created this page dedicated to the projects we find most compelling. We aim to review some of the rewards given to backers, so you the reader get to see some of the actual results paying customers get for their money. |
| Opp LOL Reviews: "Chronicle" Movie
With an exciting premise, Chronicle is a presentation of power and youth portrayed in an exciting fashion. The film centers on three high school students in Seattle who are classically dissimilar. Dane DeHaan's Andrew is the central figure, who films much of the movie to protect himself from his abusive father and local bullies. Andrew's cousin Matt (Alex Russell) is the philosophical, fitter, and awkward good guy that has more in common with Clark Kent than a teenager. Finally, Michael B. Jordan's Steve Montgomery is a great new friend to the duo, popular, and receives entirely too little screen time. The catalyst for action is discovering glowing crystals in a sinkhole and after *something* these three young people can move things with their minds. |
| Opp LOL Reviews: HBO's "Luck" Television Show
After seeing the first two episodes of HBO's Luck, I'm convinced the network has a new hit and that viewers are likely to learn a lot more about racetrack culture. It certainly starts slow, keeps a relaxed pace, is immersed in a world few know about, and doesn't have a conventional plot. However, all of those are strengths for those with patience. Creator David Milch (Deadwood) and Executive Producer Michael Mann (Heat) have brought us an epic series which focuses on the Santa Anita racetrack in California and the people who work and gamble there. The first season will have a total of nine episodes, but after episode 0101 it was renewed for a ten episode second season - an act that says a lot about both Luck and HBO's commitment to it's children. |
| Liam "Lfarnc" Neill's Amazing Dunny Collection
Through blogging custom Chuckboy 2Tone Dunnys and reading the Kidrobot discussion boards, there has been a lot of talk about toys heading towards the collection of "Lfarnc." On January 12th, 2012 that message board member and collector posted the collection many custom toy fans have been waiting to see. Continuing the greatness of that reveal, Liam Neill (Lfarnc) has agreed to answer my questions about collecting and commissioning custom toys. Learn the collector's take on the Chuckboy 2Tone, how long one should expect to wait for a commission, paying upfront or not, and what his family thinks about his passion. |
| Opportunity LOL's Favorites From 2011
How was 2011 for you? For us, it was very busy but really fantastic. We created roughly 500 blog posts, over 300 product reviews, 40 interviews, and many great articles this year. We also saw our social media stats blow up, reviewed some of the coolest products in 2011, and talked with many of our favorite people in the world. We have tremendous expectations for 2012, with a lot already lined up for the future. We also had a redesign and we're looking sharp! This article is simply us highlighting what we thought were our favorite customs, interviews, and reviews this year. It's totally subjective (of course), and we plan to improve upon this format for the end of 2012, but if you've been reading Opportunity LOL this year - I think you'll agree that this stuff rocks! |
| Opportunity LOL Reviews: The Debut Episode of "Jon Daly's Rafflecast"
Jon Daly first appeared on Comedy Death-Ray Radio episode 28 and has since come back for a total of eight episodes of what is now called "Comedy Bang! Bang!" hosted by Scott Aukerman. His characters have been extremely weird but hilarious - most notably Sappity Tappity, Bueford Lebaron, and BillCosby Bukowski. On December 19th, 2011, Earwolf released a new episode in their "Earwolf Presents" series, "Jon Daly's Rafflecast." Only 33 minutes long, there were many strong elements to a show I hope we hear a lot more of. |
| Ian "FIELDER UK" Malcolm's Rare Eclectic Art & Toy Collection
Known as FIELDER UK on the Kidrobot Discussion Boards, collector Ian Malcolm has a very impressive art and toy collection. With one-of-a-kind and very low edition work from Ron English, Erick Scarecrow, Chris Ryniak, and Cris Rose - Ian has very edgy taste to be jealous of. As a big fan of Coarse, I am extremely impressed seeing Squink's "Pawborg" and Jon Paul Kaiser's "Pain & Fury" Custom PAW! figures in the photo above. Beyond the great shots, Ian provided us with info about his life and a unique look at what an art and toy collector thinks. |
| Opportunity LOL Reviews: "Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse" Television Show
"For Better or Worse" has as it's protagonists Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White) from Tyler Perry's two movies in the "Why Did I Get Married?" saga. If you have seen both of those movies and enjoyed them as I did, I believe this show may be appealing. During the times when there isn't arguing on beautiful real estate, Tasha owns a salon and Marcus works as a sports anchor. Marcus is divorced from a woman named Keisha (played by Kiki Haynes) and they have a child together. To make matters more complex, it is unveiled in episode six that both Tasha and Marcus have cheated on each other in the past - so fidelity is a loudly debated topic. |
| Opportunity LOL's Video Game Review: "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim"
Regardless, here's my assessment based on the ten hours I played Skyrim: It's pretty good. I loved conjuring. Running around with a magical sword that binds souls and a Flame Atronach at my side, I was ready to take on the many dragons throughout the various lands. Dragon shouts were fun but seemed more gimmicky than helpful - however checking The Elder Scrolls wiki, here are two shouts which I feel that I missed out on: Fire Breath and Odahviing (Spoilers). Skill development is certainly leagues better than how it worked in Oblivion, but you could definitely still game the system to quickly level your preferred method of attack. |
| Production Art Toys and Their Customs: "Jaws" by Coarsetoys
Running Opportunity LOL, I saw the beautiful customs of Coarsetoys Jaws figures and while the pricing keeps them from being in my home, the least I could do is attempt to blog all that I may find. If you click here, you can surf through more than twenty five high value custom Jaws and see how each artist added their unique style to these toys from Hong Kong. Following that, I contacted some of the best toy customizers and fplus, Nikejerk, and Kevin Gosselin were extremely kind in writing about Coarsetoys Jaws and the customs they created. |
